About me

Ollie Chugg is a singer-songwriter, composer, and producer who synthesises genres and sounds from all corners of the globe to create his unique sonic palette. Having grown up in South-East Asia, Ollie's music often features a fusion of contemporary western sounds and traditional Asian music. Ollie’s music straddles the line of moody, dark, Hip-hop beats, uptempo dance music with nods to Jungle and dubstep, and laidback reggae grooves. Ollie’s vinyl sample-based approach to producing allows him to manipulate sounds of the past, and create nostalgic textures with his own unique twist. Topped with soft vocal melodies and tongue and cheek lyrics, he gives the listener an insight into his abstracted inner psyche. Ollie aims to capture his audience by providing a soundtrack that would suit a low-key night-in, as well as a ‘Rager of a night-out’. He aims to create a live performance structure that showcases live remixes of his original songs, more suited to the dance floor. He believes that music can facilitate different emotions, and strives to create songs that can be adapted to different scenarios. Ollie says that he was inspired by the time he saw the Hip-hop singer ‘Joji’, who is renowned for his melodic ballads, live. In the middle of the concert, he wheeled out some DJ decks and threw a 20 minute rave to act as a counterpoint to the otherwise downtempo set. Other inspirations behind his solo work include: Greentea Peng; 4AM KRU; Sublime; and Still Woozy. His debut solo album, shared under the pseudonym. 'The Jollie Plugg' will be released in the latter half of 2025, and will feature collaborations from artists such as ‘Fringed World’ and ‘3SCAPE’.

Alongside his solo projects, Ollie has made music for a plethora of different projects; commissioned by large businesses such as 'TUl' and 'P&O ferries’, as well as having made the soundtracks to 20 short films, and 12 plays. A client who commissioned his work described his sound as 'dark and cute all at the same time', demonstrating his versatility as a composer and reinforcing his strong, consistent musical identity. Ollie's music has been played in many venues across the country including The National Theatre, London.

Looking forward, Ollie envisions a successful solo career composing and performing as an independent artist. He hopes that people will listen to his music and feel deeply connected to his own colourful and emotive world, as well as use it as a lens for better understanding themselves. Alongside this, he aims to continue with free-lance commission work for theatre, film and corporate businesses. 2025 will also see Ollie’s debut as a feature film composer, with details on the project being released in the coming months. While he may have his fingers in many pies, he hopes that people one day will be able to listen to a piece of music and recognise it as a ‘Chugg original’ as he continues to develop his own artistic voice.
